Thermistor Crystal (TSX): Working Principle and Selection Guide Thermistor crystals, commonly referred to as TSX (Thermistor Crystal), combine a quartz crystal resonator and a thermistor in a single package. The quartz element provides the frequency reference, while the thermistor provides a temperature-dependent resistance signal for an external compensation circuit. A TSX remains a passive frequency-control component: it does not actively compensate frequency by itself. Instead, the external circuit reads the thermistor resistance and uses that temperature information to compensate or control the oscillator. This makes thermistor crystals particularly useful in applications that require reliable frequency performance across changing temperature conditions. How Does a Thermistor Crystal Work? The thermistor section operates according to the relationship between temperature and resistance. As temperature changes, the thermistor resistance follows its specified resistance-temperature c
